Entry procedures for South Africa

Registration

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT BOATS REGISTER THOUGH www.osasa.org.za AT LEAST 10 DAYS BEFORE ARRIVAL IN ORDER FOR YOUR DETAILS TO BE PROCESSED TIMEOUSLY FOR ENTRY.

Entry into South Africa is a stepped process:

1. Online registration through OSASA and authorisation by Dept of Transport

2. Health Pratique obtained through OSASA

3. Immigration visited and your passports stamped with a visa

4. Completion of the online personal Customs forms for each individual

5. The DA1 form for the boat for Customs clearance. This DA1 form must be stamped by the Customs officials.

Entry To South Africa From Offshore and/or a Foreign Country

SAMSA Marine Notice MN4-22 dated 4th May 2022 mandates that all small craft must register online through www.osasa.org.za before entering a South African port of entry if coming from international waters.

Failure to register your PAN will mean the port authorities will not have received DoT authorisation for you to enter and they then have the right to refuse your entry until you comply.

OSASA manages this process voluntarily on behalf of DoT in order to preserve self-regulation. Avoiding compliance could rebound on us all; the Government wants to monitor yacht movements and at present we are able to keep the bureaucracy to a minimum. See SAMSA Directive MN4-22

Ports Of Entry/Departure

The following ports are the only official Ports of Entry at which leisure vessels may enter or depart from South Africa. Procedures may be slightly different at each port, so please check the information on the website at SA Ports of Entry.

Note that once a vessel has been cleared out for departure from South Africa, it may not call at any other South African port without completing formal arrival procedures once again.

• Port of Richards Bay

Port of Durban
Port of East London
Port of Gqeberha/Port Elizabeth
Port of Mossel Bay
Port of Cape Town
Port of Saldanha Bay

Visas and vaccinations

Have you checked your visa and vaccination status for South Africa? It is very important that you have the correct visa before you arrive in South Africa, especially if you are coming from Brazil and/or Argentine which require yellow fever vaccination certificates for clearance.
