FOREIGN VESSELS

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a Port of Entry.
If you have cleared into South Africa at one of the official ports, you are welcome to visit here and enjoy the pleasures of our lovely town and surroundings, but can only clear out of the country again at an official port.

ARRIVAL
Please note that these are South African Naval waters and therefore requirements laid out by the SA Navy must be adhered to. Contact either False Bay Yacht Club or Simon’s Town Marina Company to enquire about availability of berths prior to arrival. ​
​The large walk on moorings are for a vessel of maximum length 15m and maximum beam of 4.1m. ​There are only a few berths that can accommodate vessels over these specs.
​​There are swing moorings available for maximum 17T vessels.
​​There is an anchorage area, see designated area listed below.
​​​​All vessels using the marina and swing mooring areas must have insurance cover.
​
APPROACH: On entering False Bay, make for an approach waypoint of 34°10.080’S – 18°27.720’E and then to a final approach waypoint 34°11.250’S – 18°26.000’E. This will position you just off the Bullnose outside the marina. From there you can proceed to anchor, swing or marina moorings.
​
​On arrival in Simon’s Bay, call the SA Navy on call sign ‘Bullnose’ on VHF ch 17 to inform them of your intentions. You can also try the yacht club ‘Dolphyn’ on ch 71.
​​On arrival, please report to the club and marina offices to complete the arrival booking in forms. Please bring vessel registration papers, insurance documents and passports to the office.
​
​ANCHORING: An area has been set aside with permission from the SA Navy for visiting yachts to anchor in Simon’s Bay. This is in 5 to 10 metres of water above chart datum.
​
​​​PLEASE NOTE THAT SIMON’S BAY IS SUBJECT TO VERY HEAVY WINDS FROM THE SE AND NW AND THE ANCHORAGE IS EXPOSED. A 24/7 ON BOARD ANCHOR WATCH IS REQUIRED BY THE SA NAVY. ​ONCE ANCHORED, YOU FALL UNDER THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE YACHT CLUB AND MUST REPORT TO THE CLUB AND MARINA OFFICES.

DEPARTURE
Prior to departure, please advise the office of the intended date of departure in order for your account to be finalised and a voyage plan completed. If you are planning to continue sailing along the coast, please complete the online passage plan at ​PLEASE NOTE. Hout Bay is NOT a Port of Entry. 
Customs and Immigration must be done prior to arrival here, and from the Port of Cape Town or Saldanha Bay when departing for the Atlantic Ocean.

Approach to the harbour: 
As per charts. Apply caution when entering the harbour entrance for fishing vessels and small craft departing at night some with minimal lighting. 

Arrival formalities
Enter the harbour entrance to Starboard side of channel. No radio call in required but the HBYC Marina does monitor on Ch16 should assistance be required. Staff can be hand to assist with berthing as required.
​On Arrival and berthing, complete the Arrival Forms at the Marina floating building (The Bridge Deck) for admin and processing.

Marina details 
HBYC has 114 walk on berths able to accommodate yachts up to 16, 5 m in length and beam up to 13 m for Catamarans, with a draft of up to 3.5 m. We provide potable water and Wi-Fi for free. Power is via electrical boxes on the marina with 220V 50Hz and 16 amps for a nominal charge.
​We have fully lighted walkways with 24 hr patrolling security and a floating Bridge deck housing security, Marina Admin, Toilets and shower and lounge bar and deck facilities upstairs with amazing views. Power is green via solar panels and LI ion batteries and inverters so power outages are minimized.

Departure procedures.
Clear out with the Marina Manager as per Arrival form and obtain Clearance letter for onward travels. Staff can assist with lines and departure from Berth. As HBYC is NOT a port of entry or departure, you must clear out of South Africa either by taking the boat to the Port of Cape Town, about a 2 hr sail from HBYC, or sail directly to Saldanha Bay to complete departure procedures..

If you are planning to leave the country, please note that you can either go to the Port of Cape Town (to Royal Cape Yacht Club or V&A Marina) to clear out through Custom and Immigration, or you can now sail to Saldanha Bay and effect departure procedures from this Port of Departure. You cannot officially leave south Africa from Simonstown.
