PROCEDURE GUIDELINES FOR CAPE TOWN

If arriving in Cape Town South Africa from international waters as a first Port of Entry, it is imperative to contact www.osasa.org.za to register for pre-arrival authorisation notification (PAN) from the Department of Transport. OSASA will submit this for authorisation, then also submit the information to Port Health for your health pratique.

Port Health Services in Cape Town operate only between 07h30 and 16h00 Mon-Fri, with no services Saturday or Sunday. Requests should reach the Port Health Office no later than 15h00 on a Friday.

The Port of Cape Town is operated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and is one of the designated ports of entry for yachts entering South Africa from international waters.
Cape Town Port Control controls all the shipping and yacht movements in and out of the Port of Cape Town. Call VHF Channel 14 for permission to enter the Port.

CLEARANCE PROCEDURES

INBOUND HEALTH PROCEDURES FROM INTERNATIONAL WATERS
1. All yachts, local and foreign, that are arriving from international waters in to Cape Town as a first Port of Entry must complete the pre-arrival authorisation notification forms (PAN) online through the OSASA website www.osasa.org.za at least 7 days before arrival in Cape Town, or from your last port of call. These will be submitted by OSASA to the relevant Department of Transport officials for authorisation, and also to Port Health with a request for a health pratique. Please check to see if you require a yellow fever certificate before arrival.See our page on SA regulations.
2. On arrival in the marina, the captain must report to the RCYC office or the V&A Marina office and obtain a letter for Immigration stating they have a berth allocation.
3. The RCYC or V&A Marina offices will notify the Port Health office of your arrival.
4. Captain and crew must remain on board until such time as Port Health have cleared the boat in.

 

INBOUND IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES (International visitors or returning SA yachts)
Once cleared by Port Health, captain and crew must present themselves to the Immigration Department with passports (with copies) and the letter of berthing confirmation from either RCYC or V&A Marina.

INBOUND CUSTOMS PROCEDURES (International visitors or returning SA yachts)
For both foreign and local arrivals arriving in the Port of Cape Town from international waters as a first port of entry, Customs clearance is now done online by completing the SARS documentation at https://www.sars.gov.za/travellerdeclaration/. This can be done either a few days before arrival, or immediately on arrival at the dock. A scanned pdf of the completed DA1 Form (inward) must also be submitted to ctnportenquiries@sars.gov.za. This will be the inward clearance for the duration of your stay.

It is not necessary to contact Customs if you have already cleared in at another Port of Entry.

OUTBOUND IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES (when departing from South Africa)
On departure from South African waters from either Royal Cape Yacht Club or Victoria & Albert Marina, the Captain and crew must present themselves to the Immigration Department with the crew list and passports as well as the documents listed below, within 24 hours of sailing.
a) Letter of Good Standing from RCYC or V&A showing no monies owing
b) Completed Flight Plan/Passage Plan from RCYC or V&A to next destination.
( This is not needed if departing the Port of Cape Town for another South African port. However, all yachts leaving the Port of Cape Town must call Port Control on Channel 14 before leaving a dock and request permission to depart.)

It is now also possible to depart from South Africa across the Atlantic by clearing out in Saldanha Bay. Please follow procedures as listed on Saldanha Bay page.

OUTBOUND CUSTOMS PROCEDURES
When clearing out of South Africa from Cape Town, the DA3 form must be emailed as a pdf together with the (outward) DA1 together with the RCYC or V&A Letter of Good Standing above, your Immigration clearance, and crew list, to ctnportenquiries@sars.gov.za.
All requests should be processed by Customs the same working day. For requests made after hours, however, the clearances will only be processed the next working day.
